Lactulose only. Lactulose breath testing for the diagnosis of SIBO is widely used by medical practitioners in the USA. This test utilizes Lactulose as the test substance. 10 breath samples over 3 hours.
Lactulose + Glucose. For added assurance of the correct diagnosis of SIBO, you may want to add glucose as an additional test. Some practitioners prefer ordering this combination test.
Lactulose + Glucose + Fructose. This test leaves no stone unturned! This triple approach shines the brightest light and has the highest likelihood of finding fermentation and gas production if it is present. Additionally, if your test is positive for SIBO, it can let you know if fructose needs to be avoided during the treatment diet.
Fructose malabsorption test only. For those not suspected of having SIBO but are experiencing symptoms with consumption of fruit, honey, and other fructose containing foods.
A single baseline breath sample collection to identify the presence of methane production in constipated patients. This test can also be used to compare baseline methane levels with previous test results post-treatment, to assess treatment efficacy.
